People like Jim Hammond are what happens when people in Kootenai County don’t show up for local elections. Local elections affect the people immensely more than national elections do and it’s time the residents of North Idaho realize this.

  • Endorsed by the Kootenai County Democrats https://www.idahotribune.org/news/democrats-endorse-hammond-conservatives-endorse-alfieri-
  • In a video conference, one of the Kootenai Democrats joyfully exclaimed “that when I was told you were running I did cartwheels.”
  • Another Kootenai Democrat who had an opportunity to speak during the conference told Hammond that the idea of “personal freedom” being more important than “community” was “an assault on what we see as Democracy itself.” The individual explained that the biggest perpetrators of this so-called “assault” on Democracy were the local churches, as well as the Republican party. Hammond responded saying “yea you are right, that’s a genuine concern.”
  • The Chairman of the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee, Evan Koch, said during the conference “Thanks Mr Hammond, thanks for being with us, and I hope you don’t mind that we call you mayor because thats what we hope to see.”

Supports Mask and Vaccine Mandates

Hammond, after having been told residents of Coeur d’Alene feel as though they are being ignored, explained to the CDA Press recently, “sometimes what’s right isn’t always popular. And sometimes what’s popular isn’t always right.” — in this case, Hammond is neither popular nor is he right.

This isn’t the first time Hammond has expressed his views on COVID-19 related mandates. Back on the election trail, while speaking with the Kootenai Democrat Central Committee, Hammond famously proclaimed “if you have a spirit of community, we all would wear masks, we all would get vaccinated,” adding that this was partly why he was running for mayor of Coeur d’Alene.

Against Gun Rights and Conceal and Open Carry

While speaking with the Kootenai County Democrat Central Committee, Hammond also bloviated about the right to open carry in Coeur d’Alene, and how it just “wouldn’t be welcomed” after insinuations of weaponizing the business association against the second amendment.

Hammond has spoken many times on his issue with open carry of firearms in Coeur d’Alene, saying “you know we have a really strong downtown association, and I think we might be better served by working with them and make sure we create an atmosphere where it just wouldn’t be appropriate and it just wouldn’t be welcomed downtown, or anywhere in our community like that. I think that’s more the route we need to go. More of us need to stand up.”
