In Support of Masks for Kids in Schools

In November Debbie Chrichfield and others signed a statement urging parents and their children to wear masks and follow all government orders to ‘protect’ students, teachers, and the rest of the community.

The statement was issued and signed by State Board of Education President Debbie Critchfield, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra, Idaho Public Charter School Commission Chairman Alan Reed, Idaho Association of School Administrators Executive Director Andy Grover, and Idaho School Boards Association Executive Director Karen Echeverria.

Crichfield also helped to appoint and then praised Boise State’s president, Dr Marlene Tromp. At the head of Boise State, Tromp shut down in-person learning, forcefully masked students, and banned unvaccinated students from football games who could not show proof of negative test and did not have a mask on.

In September, Dr Tromp released the following statement for the school:

“For this week’s game, Boise State requests that you not attend if you are ill or unvaccinated and untested and implore you to follow the public health practices — particularly masking and frequent hand washing — required by the university to prevent the spread of COVID.”

Support of Critical Race Theory

Debbie Crichfield seems to be a big supporter and helped to appoint Boise State President Dr Marlene Tromp, who also happens to be a big supporter of critical race theory for the students of the school.

In 2019, some Republican members of the Idaho House of Representatives sent a letter to the new president of Boise State University (BSU), Marlene Tromp, urging her to eliminate many of the university’s diversity and inclusion programs she supports.

The programs were outlined in a newsletter written by then-interim BSU president, Martin Schimpf, which specifically mentions spent on determining students’ proper names and pronouns, and implicit bias training for hiring committees. It also mentions multicultural student events, graduate fellowships for underrepresented students.

Rep. Barbara Ehardt, a member of the House Education Committee, described such programs in the letter as “antithetical to the purpose of a public university” and against “the Idaho way.”

So far Tromp has yet to respond or take action, and other Idaho universities with similar diversity and inclusion programs have not come under fire.

During a discussion with a local journalist at a recent event, Chrichfield’s campaign manager Tyler Hurst refused to label CRT as anti-white.

As a candidate, if you’re not even willing to admit critical race theory is anti-white, then you’re probably not good on any other issue.
